In the near future, the new President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, should appoint an experienced representative to resolve the conflict in Donbass.
“Zerkalo Nedeli” writes about this, noting that in international politics the new president becomes a hostage of decisions not made by him, and therefore, the publication believes, it is impossible to solve the most complex problems with Russia in such conditions using conventional methods.
“Obviously, an experienced presidential representative to resolve the conflict in Donbass should be appointed in the near future, who will quickly come into contact with Washington, Paris and Berlin (Beijing should be added to them) in order to hear first-hand the position of the allies. He could also meet with Surkov (or another Kremlin representative) to get acquainted with the occupier’s vision of the problem. Not through an intermediary, but directly,” writes the weekly.
After this, it is proposed to formulate Ukraine’s position taking into account previously developed proposals on peacekeepers and the experience of the “Minsk Group”.
“It is important to clearly understand how exactly the West and East see the ceasefire, the deployment of peacekeepers, border control and further steps towards de-occupation, and not judge their position based on press reports, statements on talk shows or from intermediaries,” - summarizes the publication
