“It will be a slow process until a perfect democracy is born. But after the parliamentary elections on Sunday, together with the Baltic republics, Ukraine will become the most democratic state on the territory of the former Soviet Union,” Zbigniew Brzezinski said in an interview with Italian media.

Brzezinski sees the clash in Ukraine as decisive for the future of European security. Brzezinski expressed his conviction that Vladimir Putin is now no longer a reliable partner for Ukraine; Brzezinski believes that for now there is no need for Ukraine to join NATO and rearm at the expense of Western countries, if, however, the truce fails.

Brzezinski added that after decades of communism, Russians and Ukrainians began to imagine themselves as a single people, formed in the distant past, when Kievan Rus was the true cradle of ethnic identity and sovereignty. Now, this wrong situation, in his opinion, is being corrected, and this idea of ​​​​a single people is disappearing.
