“We will use”: Zelensky explained why Ukraine needs Nevzorov
It is important for Ukraine to have such an ally as the Russian journalist Alexander Nevzorov, who scolds the Russian authorities and left his native country.
The head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andriy Yermak, stated this in an interview with the online publication Left Bank, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
He was asked whether Nevzorov received Ukrainian citizenship.
“I don’t know if all the procedures are completed. There are also many procedures for a person to become a citizen. The procedures continue, you have heard the president’s position, I support it, I can say why.
Nevzorov has recently been very irritated by the current Russian government, because he speaks the truth about it, about the crimes of Russians in Ukraine. His voice is heard by millions of Russians, and it is important to us that he destroys the narratives of Russian propaganda. This is why he is useful to Ukraine. Simply put, this is a media weapon,” Yermak said.
According to him, Kyiv is not negotiating with the oligarch and co-owner of Alfa Bank Mikhail Fridman, who also wanted to become a citizen of Ukraine.
“As for the possibility of using people who have influence on Russian society, who have actually demonstrated that they take an anti-Kremlin position regarding the war in Ukraine, such people should be used as media weapons. Only in this context,” the official noted.
At the same time, he says that we need to look for different options on how to use this kind of public today.
“Of course, if there are doubts or even suspicions about a specific person, additional checks need to be carried out, or citizenship cannot be discussed at all at a certain stage, and the person must prove his benefit to our victory, complete loyalty to Ukraine, our principles and way of life,” - emphasized the head of the president's office.
He also clarified that blogger Yuriy Dud did not apply for Ukrainian citizenship.
