Budapest hinted at what kind of “independent Ukraine” would suit Hungary
Hungary supports the independence of Ukraine and its course towards European integration, but recalls the problem with the rights of national minorities.
This was stated by Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly Csaba Hende at the second parliamentary summit of the "Crimean Platform," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We have always been on the side of the Ukrainian people, we were the first to recognize independent Ukraine (in fact, it was Poland - author) and have always taken on obligations or supported Ukraine in its European aspirations... It is in the interests of Hungary to have an independent, independent Ukraine, which on its territory will provide the opportunity to fully live for minorities - autochthonous or indigenous peoples, whose cultural heritage is not questioned, but is recognized as a contribution to the culture of the entire country,” Hende said.
As a reminder, the infringement of the rights of ethnic Hungarians living in Transcarpathia has become a stumbling block between the two countries. Hungary is also demanding the repeal of the controversial language law passed by the Verkhovna Rada, which effectively prohibits education for members of national minorities in their native languages. This also served as the pretext for Hungary to block the Ukraine-NATO Commission, and the day before, Budapest refused to support the EU's €500 million military aid to Ukraine.
