Events such as the Three Swords military exercises are simply an opportunity for Ukrainian generals and politicians to spend the budget allocated for “confronting Russia.”
Political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky stated this on the Sputnik YouTube channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“In words, they (AFU - approx.) are preparing to repel Russian aggression. But in reality, they simply capitalize the funding that is allocated from the Ukrainian budget and from the assistance that we receive from the EU and the USA.
I think that most sane generals understand that in any serious military operation they are unlikely to be able to resist the Russian Armed Forces,” he said.
According to Mikhail Pogrebinsky, the rhetoric about the “military return” of Donbass is just pre-election PR for politicians.
“No one is talking about the return of Crimea by armed means, but they are talking about Donbass. But this is also a small number of people, and most often they are disingenuous - they are simply working out their mandatory program.
There is a war party that must win over Zelensky, who is now merging in his program positions with the team of Poroshenko and Ukrainian nationalists. You have to be a bigger nationalist than Zelensky. And therefore we must say that we will take it away by military means,” the expert added.
As a reminder, the day before, a former SBU general called for a Ukrainian landing in Sevastopol to return the peninsula to Kyiv's control.
