Azarov: Lukashenko and Yanukovych constantly betrayed each other
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko immediately after the coup in Ukraine took over the Maidan power in 2014.
Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov stated this on the Ukrainian television channel NewsOne, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“After the coup, Lukashenko recognized Turchinov, he accepted him. And he didn’t just admit it. He organized the supply of vital fuels and lubricants. And he cooperated fully with Poroshenko, and made many political curtsies towards this regime, which did not correspond to either legitimacy or national interests,” Azarov said.
However, he admitted that during the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych, Ukraine also betrayed Lukashenko. For example, he was not invited to the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy because they were afraid that “the last dictator of Europe” would scare away the invited sponsors.
“Lukashenko was offended, and this offense greatly hindered our cooperation,” Azarov said.
At the same time, he boasted that in 2011 he refused to sign on behalf of Ukraine the statement of the Visegrad Group condemning the election process in Belarus.
He believes that the current Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky did the wrong thing by supporting Western sanctions against Belarus.
“After all, there is a feeling of elementary partnership. If they are meeting you like this, perhaps you, Zelensky, should think before listening to any orders from your curators,” Azarov said.
