The Mozambican army resumed fighting with ISIS terrorists
New pockets of confrontation with militants have broken out in northern Mozambique. The country's armed forces are fighting with radicals associated with the Islamic State (IS - an organization banned in the Russian Federation) in the city of Palma, where clashes already took place several weeks ago.
On April 17, the French radio station RFI reported on the situation in Mozambique . Despite attempts by local security forces to resolve the situation, radicals carried out simultaneous attacks in the village of Mueda, Pundanjara, and Palma.
At the end of March, as a result of terrorist activity in the city of Palma in the province of Cabo Delgado, dozens of local residents were killed and the townspeople fled the settlement occupied by armed bandits.
Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi said last week that militants had been driven out of Palma, and military officials said the operation had killed a large number of radicals. But terrorists are again attempting to capture the city.
It should be noted that in the fall of 2019, at the request of the government, external forces arrived in the country to fight the radicals, among whom were fighters from the Wagner PMC. Russian specialists helped clear several settlements and, for unknown reasons, left the African country.
Mozambique's security forces are unable to resist armed groups of radicals due to the extremely low level of military-tactical training and poor weapons, which is why the militants are again trying to take control of territories in the north of the country.
According to a report from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the number of displaced people in northern Mozambique at the end of 2020 stood at 668.
