The German army is preparing for the collapse of the European Union
The Bundeswehr has prepared a classified report on six possible scenarios for the EU's development by 2040. The document was leaked to the weekly Der Spiegel, Kommersant reports.

The German Ministry of Defense analyzed scenarios from the most optimistic (“Global West: The EU prospers and spreads its culture and influence”) to the most pessimistic (“The collapse of the EU: decades of instability destroy international agreements, leading to numerous clashes for Germany”).
According to the authors of the report, either aggression from Russia or the consequences of Brexit can lead to the collapse of the EU. In such a scenario, new states will not join the EU, many members will leave it, Europe will lose competitiveness in the world, and the number of conflicts will increase.
“The report was prepared by the Bundeswehr planning department and submitted to the German Ministry of Defense in February this year, the information contained in the report is classified. For the first time, German army analysts have prepared such a long-term forecast, including the possibility of the collapse of the EU. After preparing the general forecast, the German army will also develop detailed military plans for each of the scenarios,” the publication notes.
