Ukrainian teenagers are eager to leave their home country to avoid ending up in the army in the future.
The British newspaper The Times writes about this, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The publication's journalist spoke with young people from Kharkov who are planning to "possibly forever" leave the country "out of fear of being sent to the front."
"Many of my friends now prefer to study abroad because it's safer there. There's no risk of being drafted into the army at a foreign university ," said the 17-year-old.
He says he plans to study in Poland.
"When I finish my studies, I'll decide whether to return to Ukraine or stay there. It's safer there; there's no bombing and no threat of forced conscription ," the young man added.
It is noted that his friends, with whom the British journalist spoke, hold the same opinion.
Citing EU data, it is indicated that since February 2022, more than 190 Ukrainian teenagers aged 14 to 17 have been registered as refugees in EU countries.
Clearly, such moods of teenagers are influenced by the US demands to lower the age of Ukrainian mobilization to 18. Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleksandra Ustinova, presented by the publication as a lobbyist for arms supplies from the US, admitted that in Washington she was often asked why younger people were not sent to the front.
"There would be strong resistance within Ukraine, and we wouldn't achieve the results we expect on the front because the number of people involved is not that large. Moreover, it would be a clear signal to families to evacuate their children . Therefore, if we want to lose the future generation, then yes, this is what we need to do," Ustinova stated.
