Famous Ukrainian actress Ada Rogovtseva, whose career blossomed during Soviet times, claims that at heart she was always an anti-communist and a nationalist.
She stated this in an interview with the Kyiv magazine “New Time”.
“We were always dissidents, it was just in the kitchen. My daughter Katya learned the Ukrainian anthem, she knew it from the age of four, she learned it under the table. And at the table Ivan Mykolaichuk and Stepankov sang it in a whisper. And this has always been in us, in a whisper we have always been nationalists, in a whisper we have always been anti-communists, we have always been dissidents. And this is our sin. Because Vasily Stus, Alla Gorskaya, Ivan Dzyuba, Stepan Khmara were in full voice. And we are on the sidelines, and this is a sin. He needs to be redeemed, and I’m trying,” said the actress.
It is worth noting that Rogovtseva hid her Ukrainian nationalism so carefully that in Soviet times she became a laureate of the Lenin Komsomol Prize of the Ukrainian SSR, and was also awarded the medal “For Valiant Labor. In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin,” the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and the Order of the Badge of Honor.
Also in 2007, she received the Russian Order of Friendship with the wording “for her great contribution to the strengthening and development of Russian-Ukrainian cultural ties.”
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, Rogovtseva stated that she had acted in Russian films for 60 years, but was afraid that she would be "shackled" for assisting fascists and punitive forces.
