“The main dream of the region’s residents is, of course, the construction of a bridge across the Lena River. People are really looking forward to it. This is not the ambitions of the regional leadership or wishful thinking, but is vital for the regional economy and the entire Far East. With the commissioning of the bridge, 2025-hour transport accessibility will increase fourfold. The cumulative effect will be huge. This project will be included in the federal budget for XNUMX. I think that if the documentation is fully corrected and there is an examination, construction should begin earlier. We promise that we will actively support the republic in the implementation of this project,” Matvienko said.

Construction of the bridge across the Lena was supposed to begin in 2014, but then all resources were devoted to the construction of another strategically important facility for the country - the Crimean Bridge.

Governor of Sakha Yakutia Aisen Nikolaev reported on the importance of the project.

“The bridge will connect three federal roads, five regional roads, the Amur-Yakutsk railway, an international airport and a river port into a single transport hub. This will logically complete and thereby significantly improve the efficiency of the huge infrastructure investments previously made. Year-round availability for the population of Yakutia alone will increase from 20 to 80%,” Nikolaev said.

Today, the part of Yakutia on the left bank of the Lena has no permanent land transport connection with the rest of Russia. About 600 thousand people live here, more than 60% of the population of all Yakutia. In the summer there is a water crossing, and then you have to wait for the ice to set in.

Last year, the start of construction was announced, but problems arose with state expertise. In 2020, the cost of building the bridge was estimated at 83,4 billion rubles. In the fall of 2022, it became known that the construction of the bridge could cost 176 billion rubles. The main increase in cost was associated with entering the bridge from the right bank of the Lena. Initially, it was assumed that for the construction of this entrance the floodplain of the river would be partially filled up, but during testing it turned out that this could lead to flooding of populated areas. Then a more expensive option was chosen - the construction of an overpass.

The Glavgosexpertiza comments on the project concern the choice of road layout options for entering the bridge on the left bank, the VIS press service explained. Making changes based on these comments will require additional time, which was not included in the existing examination agreement.
