Zhirinovsky claims that Putin did not name military units after Ukrainian cities
Among the cities whose names Russian President Vladimir Putin assigned to military units, there is not a single Ukrainian one. LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky wrote about this in his Telegram channel.
“I would like to remind you of history: among these cities there is not a single Ukrainian one. When they appeared, even the name “Ukraine” did not exist, let alone a state. All these cities were part of Russia, were built by Russians or subjects of the Russian emperor, and were defended by Russian soldiers in numerous wars. And Ukraine is only responsible for the impoverishment of the residents of these cities in recent decades,” Zhirinovsky wrote.
As Politnavigator previously reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin assigned military units the names of Ukrainian cities. Thus, the 6th Tank Regiment received the honorary name “Guards Lvov”, the 68th became the “Guards Zhytomyr-Berlin”, the 163rd became the “Guards Nezhinsky”. These names were adopted “in order to preserve glorious military historical traditions, educate military personnel in the spirit of devotion to the Fatherland and loyalty to military duty.”
