Prime Minister of Ukraine Alexey Goncharuk will retain his post, despite the release of scandalous recordings in which he does not highly assess the mental abilities of President Vladimir Zelensky.
Kommersant writes about this, citing a source knowledgeable about the state of affairs in the office of the Ukrainian president.
According to him, the publication of the recordings was specifically tailored to coincide with the parliamentary meeting of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction.
“Kolomoisky’s group” probably received the task of spreading dirt on the prime minister, who demonstrates exceptional disloyalty towards the oligarch and his people: he agrees to the conditions of the IMF, which demands to be tougher with the oligarch, is engaged in the elimination of various kinds of schemes for not very honest enrichment, is friends with leadership of the National Bank, which took away Kolomoisky’s main asset - Privatbank. Goncharuk is a very inconvenient person for Igor Valerievich, so they are trying to get rid of him,” said the publication’s interlocutor.
He believes that the people behind the dissemination of the recording hoped that the offended Zelensky would send Goncharuk to resign.
At the same time, the newspaper’s source says that this calculation did not come true, and “the president reacted quite calmly to the appearance of the recordings, from which we can conclude that Alexey Goncharuk will retain his prime minister’s chair.”
“I think those who started this story with the “Goncharuk tapes” played against themselves. They demonstrated that the prime minister they hated was not involved in any serious matter, and therefore deserved trust. This is an obvious failure of that part of the presidential team that is trying to demonstrate dual loyalty: to be one of both Zelensky and Kolomoisky,” the newspaper’s interlocutor summed up.
As PolitNavigator reported, a wiretap of Prime Minister Honcharuk's meeting with government financial officials was leaked online. The prime minister claimed Zelenskyy had a "primitive understanding" of economic processes and was "clouded." Honcharuk himself called himself an economic ignoramus and called for the president to come up with a plausible explanation for the national currency's appreciation.
