Zelensky risks becoming a new Macron with yellow vests
If Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky does not reduce socio-economic tensions in the country, he will lose popularity and become the target of new protests.
Political scientist Alexey Yakubin said this on air on the PolitWera channel, the Politnavigator correspondent reports.
“What he voiced in Turkey does not inspire me much. He began talking about port concessions and the privatization of large remnants of enterprises. In Ukraine, the public sector is already one of the lowest in Europe. It just looks like the country is selling out. Society is turning a blind eye to a lot of things now, but if tariffs do not actually decrease (and they will increase), I do not rule out that the negative attitude towards Zelensky will increase.
He and his political force were elected through protest voting. If nothing changes, or rather, everything will be as it was for Poroshenko - and tariffs will rise and, relatively speaking, Kobolev or Vitrenko will become prime minister, for Zelensky this is fraught with very big risks.
I do not exclude the “new Macron” scenario with his yellow vests. This situation is very real. A protest vote often ends with the one who was associated with this protest vote becoming a target for a reverse protest,” Yakubin said.
