Zelensky lost to Goncharuk
In the story of the cassette scandal of the head of the Ukrainian government, Alexey Goncharuk, the loser was the country's president, Vladimir Zelensky.
Political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky stated this on air on TV channel 112, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the expert, Zelensky, having decided to keep Goncharuk in office, Zelensky removed responsibility for the government’s unprofessionalism from the Verkhovna Rada and placed it on himself.
“Zelensky lost in this confrontation, and I agree with that. With Goncharuk. Here Goncharuk turned out to be more successful in this story. Not so much because he is stronger, smarter, and so on, but simply because he suddenly presented the president with a task that he could not solve well...
Sasha Dubinsky [Deputy from the Servant of the People, close to the oligarch Igor Kolomoisky] said the right words about the fact that if earlier the majority, this parliament, was responsible for the prime minister, now Zelensky personally,” Pogrebinsky said.
The expert also believes that Zelensky did not accept Goncharuk’s resignation because he had no one to replace the head of the Cabinet of Ministers.
“He was actually driven into a corner, Zelensky. He is aware that there is no direct replacement that would certainly suit him, he understands that he will not go far with this guy and he is simply not ready to send him into retirement today. And this story unsettles the president a little; he doesn’t understand what to do about it all. And, rather, I think that this topic has been postponed,” the political scientist concluded.
Earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk became embroiled in the "tape scandal" when a wiretapped recording of a meeting between Honcharuk and representatives of the financial sector was leaked online. Honcharuk discussed convincing President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who has little understanding of economics, that there were no holes in the budget. During the conversation, Honcharuk himself admitted that he wasn't an expert in economics either.
