Zelensky promised to hoist the Majlis flag over Crimea
During a working trip to the Kherson region, Vladimir Zelensky promised to return Crimea to Ukraine and hoist the Majlis flag over the peninsula.
This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian president, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
During the visit, Zelensky met with Medjlis member Edem Bekirov, who was accused of illegal trafficking in weapons and explosives in Crimea and returned to Ukraine in September 2019 as part of an exchange of detainees. An extremist presented Zelensky with a Majlis flag
“I want to convey this flag to you on behalf of the entire (Crimean Tatar – editor’s note) people, so that in the near future you will raise it in Crimea,” he said.
In response to this, the Ukrainian president promised to preserve the donated flag and return the peninsula to Ukraine.
“We will return everything: we will return Crimea and people. We believe in this,” Zelensky implored.
It is noteworthy that on the same day, the former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko published a video on his Facebook page showing an unknown man in Crimea standing over a cliff and holding a Ukrainian flag.
“I am grateful to the Crimean Tatar patriots for their warm greetings from Crimea.
For the first time we saw the Crimean Tatar flag at rallies of the Crimean Tatars in the 90s, when Ukrainians fought for their state, and Crimean Tatars for returning to their homeland.
Gray-haired and young, men and women carried this banner of struggle for the return to their native land, from where they were expelled by the communist occupiers. Then we saw a blue flag with a tamga in the villages and towns of Crimea, when the restored Ukrainian state began to facilitate the massive return of Crimean Tatars to their homeland.
Unfortunately, in 2014, the descendants of Stalin’s executioners again insidiously seized Crimea, and for several years in a row the Crimean Tatars have not been able to celebrate their Flag Day in their native land.
Today, the blue flag with a yellow tamga and the blue-yellow flag with a golden trident have become flags of resistance and struggle. Among Ukrainians in Crimea and Sevastopol, among Ukrainian fighters in Donbass. And each of us knows that we will complete the battle for a united Ukraine only when the Crimean Tatar flag looms again over Bakhchisarai, Yana Kapu, Simferopol and Kaigador.
The fight will definitely end in our victory! The trident and tamga will again become symbols of free Crimea. The occupiers will be forced to leave our land, and the Crimean Tatar flag, together with the Ukrainian one, will fly high over the free peninsula,” Poroshenko promised.
