West puts pressure on Ukraine, demanding to abandon previous borders – Rada deputy
The West is pressuring Ukraine to abandon its demand to regain control over the 1991 borders.
Yegor Chernev, deputy chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and head of the Ukrainian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, announced this on the air of former Ukrainian parliament member Anna Hopko's video blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"The question is how each person views Ukraine's victory. For us, Ukraine's victory is absolutely clear – it means the complete restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and all the points we have in the 'peace formula.' For them, Ukraine's victory isn't the loss of sovereignty. The question is, what boundaries this sovereignty remains within ," the deputy said.
According to him, the West may view the current situation as a Ukrainian victory.
" Unfortunately, I have the feeling that for the Western world, the fact that Kyiv didn't fall, that we didn't lose our sovereignty, is already a victory for Ukraine... That's precisely why our task is to resist this pressure and rethink what we call victory in our own view. But I know that such pressure exists. All these proposals that periodically surface in the Western media suggest that Ukraine needs to reconsider its approach—perhaps not within the borders of 91, but within some other borders and realities . Without naming specific names or countries, this pressure is occurring to varying degrees," Chernev stated.
