The Advertising Department of the Kyiv City State Administration demanded that a banner in support of the Ukrainian terrorist Oleg Sentsov, convicted in the Russian Federation, be removed from the facade of the Cinema House on Saksaganskogo Street, not for political reasons, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Oleksandr Smirnov, head of the Kyiv City State Administration's advertising department, stated this in a comment to Hromadske Radio .
“We are talking exclusively about construction with a permit and construction without a permit. And what is on the banner: politics or not is not a question for the Kyiv City State Administration. This is up to the State Consumer Service, which has the right to check the content for legality,” explained Smirnov.
He emphasized that the activists did not have permission to install the banner, so it was removed.
“There is a law. And if we make the exception that the law can be broken with a good intention, then this is no longer quite a law,” he concluded.
On May 26, an initiative group of filmmakers and activists, in agreement with the administration of the House of Cinema in Kyiv, hung an English-language banner in support of Sentsov on the balcony of the building. KCSA officials, threatening the activists with a fine, forced them to remove the banner. After some time he was hanged again.
Sentsov was sentenced in the Russian Federation to 20 years in prison on August 25, 2015. A Russian court found him guilty of creating and leading a terrorist community in Crimea, attempted acquisition of explosive devices and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, two terrorist acts and preparation of another terrorist attack.
