“EU citizens are paying for sanctions against Russia” – MEP
The EU should think carefully before transferring weapons to Ukraine, because they need to know exactly where these weapons will end up and who will use them.
Spanish MEP Manuel Pineda stated this during a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Sanctions are not the mechanism that will help us resolve this conflict. Sanctions are against Russia, but EU citizens pay for these sanctions, and in principle, who benefits from this is the United States, their energy sector is developing, and the main sector of the economy is developing. The most vulnerable families pay for these penalties every time they fill up their cars with gas, they suffer every time they pay for electricity.
We believe that everything must be investigated and all those responsible must be convicted. Those who commit crimes on the territory of Russia and on the territory of Ukraine are Russian citizens. And how the Roma are treated, everything in this conflict needs to be investigated. We are for all war crimes to be investigated,” he worried.
“Speaking of weapons. Do we know where these weapons are being given? Who gets it? We already have experience of what happened during other conflicts. We know how the weapons we sent to Syria against ISIS were used elsewhere. I want us to think about this, so that we do not act spontaneously, so that we think carefully about where we send our weapons,” Pineda urged.
