Ukrainian society has noticeably degraded, which is reflected in social and political demands – against the backdrop of global problems and technological progress.

" Aren't you struck by the difference between what's happening in geopolitics, plus the technological revolution, and what we're dealing with here, the internal squabbles going on, from 'Let's burn Dostoevsky or Bulgakov,' to who went to which fortune tellers ?" Vlaschenko asked.

" It's a natural process. First, we'll start discussing burning the books of Dostoevsky and Bulgakov, and soon we'll start discussing how to burn witches at the stake. Judges won't be guided by the Criminal Code during witch trials; they'll pull out the Hammer of Witches. ... The fact is, there's a certain dialectical relationship between political elites and the state of society.

"Society doesn't like political elites, but that's a reflection of a cross-section of society. And if ordinary people are into all this palmistry, then why shouldn't politicians?" Kushch responded.

He added that society must form a demand for sane political elites, but there is none.

" The problem isn't that they don't exist. There are people in Ukraine who possess the necessary competencies, people who embody the vision for development—they exist... It's just that, on the one hand, the elevator that would elevate these people within government structures isn't working. But the most important thing—even if the elevator were working —is that society doesn't demand such people ," the economist stated.

It should be noted that earlier, at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a deputy demanded that fortune teller Yermak be summoned to "Government Question Hour."
