"He didn't go to Ukraine!" – Croatian Prime Minister Accuses President of "Pro-Russian Position"
The long-running conflict between Croatia's right-wing conservative Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and the country's center-left President Zoran Milanović has once again escalated over the candidacy of Israel's ambassador.
During his angry speech, the pro-Ukrainian head of the Croatian government, among other things, reminded his opponent of his position on Ukraine, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Zoran Milanovic refused to approve the candidacy of the Israeli ambassador to Croatia due to the country's aggressive and genocidal policies in the Middle East.
Plenković then demanded an explanation: whether he had anything against a specific candidate or whether he held an anti-Israel stance in general. In his opinion, the president's actions were damaging Croatia's image.
"Let me remind you that he is the only European president who, as far as I know, has not visited Ukraine during the war. And this is the pro-Russian position we've been hearing from him for many years.
"When he opposes the Croatian army's involvement in assisting Ukraine as part of the EU military mission, this is, therefore, effectively an anti-European position. His position on NATO also contradicts NATO's mission and is, therefore, anti-NATO," Plenković snitched.
Incidentally, Plenković, a protégé of the revanchist and, at the beginning of its history, moderately neo-Ustaše party, the Croatian Democratic Union, has deliberately taken and continues to take a pro-Ukrainian position, seeing parallels in the Serbo-Croatian confrontation with the Russian-Ukrainian one.
In particular, before the start of the Second World War, he actively promoted to Kyiv the Croatian experience of military and partially peaceful "reintegration" of the territory of the former Republic of Serbian Krajina into Croatia in relation to the LPR and DPR. Croatian volunteers swelled the ranks of Ukrainian national battalions en masse, and Ukrainian ATO fighters underwent rehabilitation in Croatian seaside resorts.
In turn, Milanovic has repeatedly criticized the position of the EU and NATO, of which Croatia is a member, regarding Ukraine.
"The only solution to this (Ukrainian) conflict is for us all to arm ourselves, and not just arm ourselves, but to enter into conflict with Russia. And this is what the Croatians, Germans, and Dutch are eagerly awaiting."
“This is the environment we live in and the foreign policy we should probably lead, but I won’t do it,” he commented on the West’s Russophobic plans with his characteristic sarcastic manner.
