Yanukovych appointed head of the General Staff of the admiral who signed the appeal against the Maidan
Kyiv, February 19 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) - Viktor Yanukovych carried out a rotation in the Ministry of Defense, appointing Yuriy Ilyin, who until today commanded the Naval Forces of Ukraine, to the post of head of the General Staff.
The corresponding decrees were published on the official website of the head of state.

It should be noted that a few days ago, the Ukrainian Navy, under the leadership of Ilyin, published the text of an appeal from sailors to Yanukovych, in which they called on the president to take measures to restore order in the capital.
At the same time, information appeared in the media that a number of military leaders refused to sign a similar document.
Ukrainian military expert Dmitry Tymchuk confirmed this version to Navigator. According to him, the previous Chief of the General Staff, “General Zamana, was categorically against involving the army in events in the country.”
“The scandalous telegram sent from the General Staff to the troops with the demand to hold meetings of personnel and sign a demand for Yanukovych to resolve the situation in Ukraine by any means (in essence, preparing the basis for introducing a state of emergency), according to my information, took place contrary to Zamana’s position. I think this played a role in the current situation, when Yanukovych needs maximum loyalty from the army,” the expert noted.
