The invasion of the Kursk region could have involved a plan to seize large territories and proclaim a quasi-state entity – a successor to the Lokot Republic, created during the Nazi occupation, in order to transfer frozen Russian assets in the West to its needs.

Retired Russian special forces colonel Anatoly Matviychuk stated this on the Red Line channel , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"We kept watching this adventure, for some reason we kept rushing toward the nuclear power plant and so on, but if you dig deeper into history, there was the Lokot Republic during the war . It included parts of the Kursk and Belgorod regions, and the Bryansk region. And the most interesting thing is that we can see very active actions by our opposition, which fled."

" And I believe it was an attempt to recreate this republic, recognizing it as the legal successor to that republic, and to take that 300 billion for it—and give it to Zelensky for the war . That's where the calculation was, but we didn't give it to them," Matviychuk suggested.
