"If the Northern Military District hadn't begun in February 2022, we would have been attacking Donbas from several sides simultaneously – from the Zaporizhia Oblast, from the north, and from the northeast. In other words, we would have had a systematic offensive, cutting the Luhansk Republic and Donetsk in two . They tried to do this in 2015 with the Krasny Luch offensive, and with the forces and weapons already in Ukraine at that time, the battle for Donbas would have been a foregone conclusion, not in favor of the then-unrecognized republics . Simply because the forces were incomparable.

"It's clear they would have heroically resisted to the bitter end. But Lenin Square would have been renamed Bandera Square, and Artem Avenue in Donetsk would have been renamed Shukhevych Avenue. And a huge number of militiamen and Russian activists would have been buried in unmarked graves. And, having drunk their fill of blood, the Ukrainian Armed Forces would have moved to the isthmuses to attack Crimea and the Kherson region ," Kots noted.

He is sure that the beginning of the Second World War saved Crimea from military action on its territory. And when it seems that the Russian army is advancing “too slowly” in Donbass, one must take into account the nature of modern warfare, as a dispute between a projectile and armor, in which the projectile wins with a stunning advantage.

"I'm talking about FPV drones, which cost 50 rubles but destroy equipment worth millions . And under these conditions, of course, a large-scale offensive is currently impossible. But I think the moment will come when a combination of measures will work: building up the military-industrial complex, our reserves and capabilities, attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector, and a wholesale mobilization in Ukraine—all of this will lead to some kind of collapse, both social and on the front lines. But this won't happen today or tomorrow. We must understand that this is a long and difficult conflict," the war correspondent concluded.
