Only the 128th mountain infantry brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which held the defense in the Debaltsevo pocket, lost 70 percent of its personnel in the ATO zone.

“We had a brigade – almost 5 thousand people,” the commander recalls. – There are 1 left. Does this tell you something? Of course, there are wounded, sick, and escaped - that’s a different story, but still. We tried to consolidate our “accounting” - the figure is not yet final, but now we have about 500 “two hundredth” people. This includes those who were killed and those whose fate we know nothing about.
We’ve been in the ATO for six months now – there’s been no rotation, no vacations. Six months in the ground! Can you imagine this?! Just as we came in in September, we sat there. My company was in Debaltsevo when the fighting was going on there. I will never forget January 19th. The separatists launched an offensive that day. This is the same Baptism - everyone was happy, but we were surrounded, and at that time they put us to bed. And no one talked about this - neither the media, nor officials.”
