The World Bank recognizes Ukraine as hopelessly backward
In 2017, the combined net worth of the three richest individuals exceeded 6% of Ukraine's GDP.
This was stated during the presentation of a study on the economic development of Ukraine by the Vice-President of the World Bank, Cyrille Muller, who deals with the countries of Europe and Central Asia.
“This is almost twice as much as in Russia and three times more than in Poland. The income share of the richest people as a share of GDP has remained virtually unchanged since 2007. This has limited access to economic opportunities that can unlock the full potential of human capital,” the study says.
According to him, it is very difficult to carry out reforms when there are such powerful influence groups.
Muller also said that without reforms, Ukraine will need 50 years to reach the level of Poland.
The World Bank has declared Ukraine hopelessly backward.
