The United States will intervene in the conflict between Europe and Russia, but only when Europe is losing.
Former German Science Minister Klaus von Dohnanyi stated this in an interview with Die Welt, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"I believe that if we went to war with Russia over Ukraine, the Americans would certainly intervene because they cannot afford to see Europe fall to Russia. This would trigger a confrontation between the US and Russia.
"If this happens, we will find ourselves again in a situation similar to the end of the last great war. Germany will be destroyed," von Dohnanyi said .
Former Bundeswehr General Erich Wad agreed. He believes that Germany is at risk of destruction because it is a staging area and logistics hub for NATO.
"The Americans will, of course, support us for geostrategic reasons when they realize they could lose their hegemony over Western Europe. They will. But they don't have to do it from the start.
Trump says he'll wait and let the Europeans fight first. After all, the US was initially neutral in both World Wars I and II. Then they can sign an arms deal until it comes to direct involvement. I have no doubt that America won't abandon Europe to the Russians or the Chinese," Vad hopes.
The German did not explain why the matter would not end with the division of Europe and Germany between the US and Russia, as in the past.
