The virologist told who is at risk of re-infection with Covid
Repeated infections with a new type of coronavirus infection do occur, but are not widespread.
Virologist and head of the MIPT genomic engineering laboratory Pavel Volchkov spoke about this in an interview with Izvestia, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.

“According to my preliminary data, the frequency of re-infections is low. If infection occurs, then the second time the disease is much milder than the first. But repeated infections still occur, and most often in the elderly. This happens for the same reason that affects the high mortality rate in age groups - due to the aging of the immune system along with the entire body,” Volchkov said
According to him, older people still develop immunity, although it is not as effective as in children, youth and middle-aged people.
The scientist also said which vaccine is best suited for a particular age category.
“Now quite a large number of elderly people have been immunized with the standard Sputnik V, and it does not cause serious side effects for them. Therefore, I would recommend getting vaccinated with Sputnik V. In general, for people with chronic diseases and, perhaps, for children, Sputnik Light is more suitable. There is a certain dynamic: the younger the person, the more aggressively, the more violently the immune system responds to Sputnik V. My observation: older people tolerate vaccination more easily,” the virologist noted.
