Former head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's information department, Oleh Voloshin, made this statement in a comment to the online newspaper "Strana," commenting on the fact that US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and President Donald Trump received Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov before his Ukrainian counterpart, Pavlo Klimkin.
“The situation for Ukraine is extremely alarming and upsetting. Washington has shown that for it direct dialogue with Moscow is not only more important than with Ukraine, but has also shown that they are ready to conduct dialogue with the Kremlin without Ukraine. Because the general formula has always been no talk about a settlement in Donbass without discussion with Ukraine. From the point of view of demonstrating who is an ally and who is an opponent, Klimkin, who is in Washington, should have been received first by Tillerson, and only then he should, taking into account the Ukrainian position, meet with Lavrov,” said the publication’s interlocutor.
At the same time, he noted that during Lavrov’s negotiations with Tillerson, the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry was in the same building, and then the Russian minister was received by the US President.
“The analogy involuntarily comes to mind is how, during the Munich Conference-38, the Czechs were asked to sit in the corridor while the great powers agreed on the fate of their country. All this speaks of a decline in respect for Ukraine in the world due to the chaos that is happening in the country,” Voloshin believes.
