In difficult times, Ukrainian nationalists demand the return of the “nationality” column in passports
Kyiv, January 14 (PolitNavigator, Maxim Karpenko) – Ukrainian patriots complain that without the “nationality” column in their passport they feel disadvantaged. Thus, the deputy chairman of the Union of Officers of Ukraine, Grigory Omelchenko, states that “the removal of the “nationality” column from passports, birth certificates and other documents of Ukraine was “not just a mistake, but an ethnocide.”
He stated this to the newspaper “Young Ukraine”.

According to Omelchenko, even in Soviet times, citizens’ internal passports indicated their nationality.
“On June 26, 1992, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Resolution “On approval of the provisions on the passport of a citizen of Ukraine, on the birth certificate and on the passport of a citizen of Ukraine for traveling abroad,” where the column “nationality” was removed. This was the beginning of a special operation to de-Ukrainize the population of independent Ukraine,” Omelchenko assures.
