In the capital of Serbia, an official besotted with the ideas of the Maidan acted strangely
Marko Bastač, the head of Belgrade's Old Town district and a Maidan sympathizer, and 10 hooligans, once again attempted to disrupt the reconstruction of the central Republic Square today, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The bastach and his support group entered the fenced area on a scooter and interfered with the construction workers, reported the local publication Informer.

Workers were forced to suspend repairs, which had already been delayed and had been going on for several months.
Let us remind you that large-scale works are designed to transform the famous tourist attraction into a comfortable, landscaped area. However, the opposition is promoting protests under the pretext of a fight to preserve the historical appearance of the city.
The authorities have already announced that due to regular provocations from the opposition, the project implementation deadlines will be delayed.
“Because of this, traffic in the square will not be allowed on September 1, as previously planned,” Deputy Mayor of Belgrade Goran Vesic said today on his Instagram page.

In addition, according to him, such actions are expensive for the city budget: at the moment, the contracting company has imposed a penalty of 2 million dinars. They will be paid from the city budget.
Vesic also announced today that the city parliament will take a number of measures next month to prevent illegal activities of the Old Town Municipality and will prosecute violators in accordance with the law.
The actions of the protesters caused sharp indignation and condemnation of Belgrade residents. One of the passers-by even spat in the direction of Marko Bastach.
The city committee of the Serbian Progressive Party issued a statement saying that the behavior of an employee of the Old Town municipality is unacceptable - instead of serving citizens, the official is preventing the completion of restoration work.
Let us remind you that the main demands of the protesters from the “Union for Serbia” are an end to the reconstruction of the city and the resignation of the mayor and his team.
Also today, a court decision was made on the legality of the construction of a funicular from Kalemegdan Park to New Belgrade.
The dispute on this issue was also initiated by the opposition.
Goran Vesic, in his commentary for Politika, noted that archaeological research was mandatory even without a court verdict. The authorities will do everything to ensure that construction is carried out in accordance with the law, the official assured.
