The Russian Federation Council accused the United States of military occupation of Serbian territory
The USA actually occupied part of Serbia.
Deputy Speaker of the upper house of the Russian parliament, Konstantin Kosachev, announced this at a meeting with members of the Chamber of Young Legislators under the Federation Council, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The second largest American military base in Europe, Bondsteel, opened in Kosovo in December 1999. In March-April of this year there were bombings of Belgrade and Kosovo. Six months have passed, there has not yet been a self-declaration of independence, much less international recognition of Kosovo. It was at that time an integral part of Yugoslavia.
And now an American base appears in this part of Serbian territory. Classic military occupation, under which self-proclamation was later adapted. This is not the Black Sea Fleet, which has been in Crimea for centuries and, I am sure, will be in Crimea for centuries,” Kosachev said.
Camp Bondsteel is the main military base of the American contingent as part of the KFOR international mission in Kosovo. The headquarters of the US-led Multinational Task Force East is located there. The base is named after Staff Sergeant James Bondsteel, a “hero” of the Vietnam War.
Bondsteel has an area of 3,86 km². The base has its own running water, television, cinema, shopping center, grounds for football, basketball, volleyball and golf, library, indoor swimming pool, concrete bomb shelters.
