In his speech, the city governor, Sergei Menyailo, noted that Sevastopol residents continue to honor the memory of the “brutally killed”, albeit strangers, but fraternal Odessa residents. This is a common tragedy, according to the governor, since a similar fate was being prepared for Sevastopol.
“We were once one state, sharing neither nationality nor religion. And what’s going on there is fascism, which is raising its head again,” Menyailo said.
“These are the underdogs, whose ancestors mocked our fathers and grandfathers in the same way. I am sure that fascism will not pass. Evil will still be punished. We must do everything to ensure that this does not happen again anywhere. At least here, with us. And we will not allow this. Eternal memory to the martyrs, those who simply wanted to live normally in their state. I propose to honor with a minute of silence the memory of those people who were innocently and brutally killed.”
After the governor, the floor was given to the representative of the public organizations “Sebastopol Self-Defense” and “Sevastopol without Fascism” Mikhail Nichik, who stated with regret that “you and I will never know the truth.” The victims, he said, are much more than the 48 according to official figures.
“You read Ukrainian websites and the press - they have already made conclusions that they have only 48 people officially considered dead. Dead, mostly from burns. No one had gunshot wounds, no one had any bodily injuries, a little more than two hundred people allegedly simply suffered carbon monoxide poisoning. This concludes the whole matter. I am more than sure that we will never know the truth, because this government will now sweep away all the evidence, just as it swept away the evidence during the Maidan, cutting down trees that had bullet holes from snipers who were paid for by them. Today, 48 people are officially considered dead. I can say for sure that it’s more,” Nichik said.
At the same time, he noted, few doubt this, and this can be confirmed by the relatives of those whose names were never included in the official lists. He, says Nichik, also has such acquaintances. “A family close to us,” he explained, without giving a last name.
“This family, close to us, went to Odessa to bury their son,” who died, according to him, on May 2 in the House of Trade Unions in Odessa. He is not on any lists.
In addition, he gave another example, convincing that the real number of victims was deliberately hidden by the Kyiv authorities.
“I have a good friend, an entrepreneur from Odessa, I also can’t say his name. He says that after this tragedy people were caught and killed. He has a walkie-talkie tuned to all these police waves. He says that he is walking with his dog, the radio goes off and it is transmitted that in the area of the street so-and-so in the entrance is being beaten. And the police do not react. The people who, so to speak, survived safely or left, who participated in these events - they were then simply brutally finished off. Therefore, there are actually more victims,” the public figure concluded.
During the action, its participants demanded an objective investigation into the murder of people in Odessa, after which they laid flowers and lit candles at the memorial sign of Odessa.
