A “Russian spy” working for Nord Stream 2 was caught in Poland.
A local resident suspected of spying for the Russian Federation was detained in Poland, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by Polish Radio with reference to the local television channel TVP1.
“The Polish Internal Security Agency detained a man suspected of spying for Russia. The arrested person was interested in the activities of the Ministry of Energy,” the report says.
According to the Polish intelligence services, the detainee was transmitting information about gas contracts and Poland’s decisions on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
“Marek V. maintained contacts with Russian intelligence officers operating under diplomatic cover at the Russian Embassy in Warsaw. The action was coordinated with the actions of other European Union states,” the statement says.
The press secretary of the coordinator of the Polish intelligence services, Stanislav Zharina, said that the detainee was involved in receiving EU funds for projects to diversify gas supplies to Poland. Now the man has been arrested for three months and has been charged with espionage, which carries up to 10 years in prison.
