Moscow now regrets that it did not finish off Ukraine in cauldrons
Russia was in vain to initiate the signing of the Minsk Agreements when the Ukrainian army was defeated.
Political scientist Sergei Mikheev stated this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the expert, at that time the Ukrainian army was the most vulnerable, so it was necessary to continue the offensive and put the pressure on Kyiv.
“We shouldn’t have felt sorry for them. By and large, the Minsk Agreements were an act of pity, sympathy, if you like, it was a step towards the Ukrainian authorities and those who supervise them in the West. In fact, even then the situation could have developed much more sadly for the current Kyiv authorities. The offensive could develop. They didn’t say that there were Russian troops there – it doesn’t matter. In fact, then it was possible to achieve great military successes,” the political scientist said.
He emphasized that at that moment the Ukrainian army was on the verge of absolute collapse.
“Then the Minsk Agreements were something like recognition of Poroshenko’s elections in 2014. Like, let's give them a chance, maybe something will change, maybe against the backdrop of these agreements they will agree to change the Constitution or something in this regard. It seems to me that, just like in 2014, in February on the Maidan, we again saw these same “Western partners” somewhere in the background... This is not the first time that this belief that it is possible to negotiate with the West has failed us “And the same thing happened with the Minsk agreements,” said Mikheev.
