Moscow asked not to compare the protests in Armenia with the Ukrainian Maidan
The Armenian protests are not like the Ukrainian Euromaidan because 90% of the Armenian population supports Russia. Political scientist Nikolai Platoshkin stated this today at a press conference in Moscow.
“Any analogies with the Ukrainian Maidan are not based on anything. The entire opposition, which has now united against the ruling Republican Party, consists of pro-Russian people, unlike what was in Ukraine,” Platoshkin said.
He believes that Russia should not take the side of the ruling Republican Party in the internal Armenian conflict.
“The Russian Federation should not bet on a broken card. The experience with Yanukovych should have taught us something. This man positioned himself as pro-Russian, but, in fact, like the now ruling party in Armenia, he led his country in a western direction.
When we strongly associated ourselves with Yanukovych, anti-Russian forces took advantage of this. As a result, we acquired hundreds of thousands of opponents in Ukraine who had nothing against Russia before,” Platoshkin said.
