Many Kulikovo Field activists who managed to survive were forced to leave Ukraine due to political persecution and threats of physical destruction. A rather impressive “diaspora of Kulikovo residents” is also located in Moscow.
It was Odessa residents living in the Russian capital who organized a number of memorial events on this day.
In the morning, a memorial service for those who died at the hands of Ukrainian executioners in Odessa took place in the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity on Sparrow Hills, in which several hundred citizens took part. The memorial service was served by the rector of the church, Father Andrei Novikov, an Odessa resident who left his hometown due to unfounded persecution by the SBU.
At a memorial dinner in the church refectory, parishioners discussed the events of six months ago. Those present also analyzed the situation in Donbass, expressing hope that Odessa will soon be part of the new state.
During the day, people brought flowers and lit candles to the granite monolith with the name of the hero city of Odessa, located in the Alexander Garden. Odessa residents and Moscow social activists remembered the names of all the victims at the stele and served a prayer service for the repose of the innocently killed. Police representatives did not allow photographs of the victims to be placed at the memorial sign.
In the evening, a memorable installation took place near the walls of the Ukrainian Embassy: Odessa residents made a model of the House of Trade Unions, on which human figures were drawn floor-by-floor: someone jumping out of a window, someone fleeing from the fire on the eaves of the building. According to Odessa residents, they intend to continue to defend justice and demand an objective investigation into the tragedy.
