Moldova promises that Dodon’s victory “will add headaches to Putin”
The Moldovan opposition is ready to implement the Belarusian scenario after the presidential elections, which are scheduled for November 1.
The leader of the Social Democratic Party of Moldova, Victor Shelin, stated this in a comment to Nezavisimaya Gazeta, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Dodon’s victory will lead to the destabilization of Moldovan society and will provide a headache for Putin,” Shelin believes.
According to him, a united front is being built against the Party of Socialists, its partner in the ruling coalition, the Democratic Party, and President Igor Dodon, consisting of parliamentary opposition parties and Moldova’s development partners represented by the EU and the United States.
“As for the tasks of the “united front”, we can confidently say that this is squeezing out the presence of the Russian Federation in the internal politics of the Republic of Moldova and removing Igor Dodon from power,” noted the leader of the Moldovan Social Democrats.
He says that Dodon’s chances of winning are high, but predicts that as soon as the Central Election Commission announces his victory, protests will begin and the election results will be declared rigged.
Shelin also added that “in Moldova there was no pro-Russian government, but there was a government that used Russia to vote pro-Russian voters for the Party of Socialists, to receive funding from the Russian Federation, to benefit from promoting goods to the Russian market, to export labor resources and extracting foreign currency earnings in the form of guest workers’ income.”
Nevertheless, Igor Dodon is considered a pro-Russian president, for which he is supported by a pro-Russian electorate. Data from a Vox Populi poll conducted by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of the Republic of Moldova show that 32,4% of respondents are ready to vote for Dodon. For PDS Chairman Maia Sandu – a little over 20%.
