Ukrainian TV journalist Roman Bochkala stated this in an interview with the online publication “Apostrophe”, answering the question of how to return Crimea to Ukraine.
“You know, it will only get worse. These are the first signs: there Zeman said, there North Korea recognized, there were some other statements before that. There will be more and more of them. Again, I'm talking about this now using the example of other situations. Take Northern Cyprus, which was occupied by Turkey in the 70s. And what? Everyone still understands that it is occupied, but nevertheless, a lot has changed over the years. Yes, only ships flying the Turkish flag still enter the port of Famagusta, which was once the most powerful port of Cyprus, but is now far from being that. And the Varosha resort was very cool, the best resort in Cyprus, but now it stands covered with barbed wire, there is no one there. But people, as we talked to you, are used to it. And the whole world got used to it.
And nothing, Cyprus was accepted into the EU, despite the fact that it has occupied territory. They said: “Well, you will make peace, you promised us that you would make peace.” Everyone slowly began to turn a blind eye to this. And they also turned a blind eye to Turkey as an aggressor who seized foreign territory. They have not stopped maintaining economic relations with Turkey. On the contrary, they even invited me to the EU. This happened a long time ago, but after the occupation. And there are many such examples,” the journalist said.
“Time, unfortunately, erases all this and triggers the mechanism of oblivion. Every day new conflicts occur in the world, new problems arise. And the problem of Crimea, the further it goes, the more it will recede into the background. If even in Ukraine they talk about Crimea less than three years ago, for example, then it is clear that in Europe and in other regions of the world they will talk about it less and less,” Bochkala predicts.
