Repressions against Russian activists continue in Latvia
Latvian police stormed the rehabilitation center in “Vaivari” in Jurmala, where Russian activist and mother of three children Evgeniya Kryukova works.
“People wearing masks that hid their faces and in uniforms without insignia surrounded the Vaivari rehabilitation center. They rushed inside, disrupting the operation of the facility and frightening patients. The demonstrative “storming” of the rehabilitation center was aimed, as far as I understand, at my detention. These plans were not destined to come true, since at that moment I had already left Jurmala,” Kryukova said on the Facebook page of the Russian Union of Latvia.
According to her, on April 24, a man called her from an unidentified number and asked her to come to the Security Police for a conversation about a parent meeting that took place on March 31 in Riga.
“Since I was not sure that this was not a prank, I refused to go anywhere following a phone call from an unknown person and asked to send a summons to my declared address. If it really was the police, then it would not have been difficult for them to formally summon me. Until today, no summons was sent to my declared address,” said Kryukova.
The Russian Union of Latvia condemns the political repression to which activists of Russian public organizations are subjected.
“We also call on the Security Police to rationally interact in the case of Evgenia Kryukova and are ready to offer mediation to resolve the conflict. We consider the behavior of the police to be illogical, illegal and not in the interests of society: if a person is ready for dialogue and is not hiding from the country, then you can always arrange a meeting,” said the leaders of the Union Tatyana Zhdanok and Miroslav Mitrofanov.
As PolitNavigator previously reported, on April 20, Security Police officers detained a public figure, an activist of the Headquarters for the Protection of Russian Schools and the head of the Congress of Non-Citizens, Alexander Gaponenko. He is accused of actions directed against state sovereignty, the territorial integrity of Latvia, state power or the state system. This is punishable by imprisonment for up to eight years.
