Water extracted from the bottom of the Sea of Azov can be sent to the North Crimean Canal and used for irrigation of agricultural land.
The head of the Republic of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, announced this at an annual press conference, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the head of the region, experts have not yet come to a conclusion whether this water is ready for drinking or irrigation.
“I can’t say anything about the quality of water under the Sea of Azov yet - we are waiting for the federal services that deal with this issue all the time from day to day. We are ready to present and publish such information. As soon as the developers provide this information. It will be clear what to do next,” the head of Crimea said.
“That is, if the amount of solid particles is greater than the norm and the water requires additional purification, then, of course, it is clear that no one will install a desalination plant for such a volume. If this water is fresh, technical, even if not potable, then there is the possibility of supplying it to the North Crimean Canal, think about supplying it along the entire direction of the North Crimean Canal. Moreover, with the difference in altitude, it can be supplied to the north without pumping stations, without any problems. This will make it possible to increase the areas subject to reclamation by several times,” Aksenov said.
