The Soviet system of army command and control remained in Ukraine, despite intensive attempts to transfer it to NATO standards.

This was stated on TV channel 112 by military expert Ivan Yakubets, who complained that even the star of the Hero of Ukraine was made according to a Soviet pattern and was no different from the star of the Hero of Russia.

“The psychology of military control is a very important issue that receives virtually no attention. This issue has been completely neglected - our military control remains Soviet next to our interethnic, European, NATO issues, which they are now introducing - they forced it, the military control still remains Soviet. We have a system of military awards, it is already Ukrainian. But the star of the Hero of the Soviet Union, it was preserved. Preserved in Russia and Ukraine. How the star differs from the Russian star, ours, is nothing. She's the same. But this is the dominant reward. So is the military command system,” Yakubets said.
