Russian President Vladimir Putin said nothing new or significant regarding Ukraine, and this issue faded into the background on the Kremlin agenda.

Evgeniy Filindash, director of the Ukrainian Center for Social Analytics, said this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“In my opinion, Putin spoke little about Ukraine; the only concrete thing he said was an unambiguous hint about the development of the situation if a large-scale offensive is launched in the Donbass during the World Cup. Putin spoke directly about a possible threat to Ukrainian statehood, i.e. made it clear that Russia could intervene very actively in the event of an offensive in the Donbass. The World Cup is given great importance, and therefore, given the actions that have recently been taken by the Ukrainian authorities, this is such an unambiguous signal that this should not be done,” Filindash said.
