Kyiv, January 13 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) – On Tuesday, an Automaidan protest took place near the Roshen store near the Zhitomirskaya metro station in Kyiv. Its participants demanded the closure of Petro Poroshenko’s confectionery factory in Russia, with which, according to the demonstrators, there is a war. In addition, the picketers protested against the detention and beating of their 17-year-old colleague, who immediately tried to carry out a similar action on January 11.

17-year-old Evgeny Gurin was detained near the Roshen store on the morning of January 11 by employees of the Sheriff security company, after which he was handed over to the police. The detainee is accused of breaking a store window. Photos of the marks of beatings on the body of the detainee have appeared on the Internet. It is still not clear who inflicted the beatings - police officers or a security company.
It is also unclear whether this was a peaceful protest by a group of four, as supporters of the detainee claim, or whether the activists actually broke a window. They wrote on social networks that activists wanted to display a poster in protest against the fact that one of the factories of the Roshen company, which belongs to Petro Poroshenko, operates in Russia.
Automaidan activists, who gathered today at the store in the same place where Yevgeny Gurin was detained, claim that this was a peaceful protest, and the detainee was beaten by the police. In addition, when he ended up at the police station, they did not immediately allow him to see a lawyer, they say.
Activists hung a poster “How do you taste the blood of ATO fighters?” on the wall of the store and placed the same poster at the entrance.
“We condemn vandalism, the breaking of a store window. But we condemn even more that this man was detained and that he was interrogated without a lawyer. We are for peaceful protest and now we are holding a peaceful protest action near the Roshen store.
Another reason for our action is sanctions against Russian business in Ukraine. Not a single Automaidan activist refuels at gas stations of Russian companies,” said Automaidan activist Ekaterina Butko.
“Nothing has changed over the past year. The police are still engaged in lawlessness, detaining and beating minors, and do not allow lawyers or people's deputies to enter. At the same time, for some reason they are engaged in Roshen stores without paying attention to other things. A year ago we participated in the “Revolution of Dignity” to make systemic reforms and change lives, but this is not happening. There are no reforms, the Ministry of Internal Affairs still serves the authorities, and does not protect citizens.
We will do what the detained young man tried to do - unfurl the poster. In essence of this poster, we want to say the following: how can a president make effective decisions and fight the enemy if he has business in the country of this enemy?” – said Automaidan activist Sergei Khadzhinov.
Other claims by activists include the illegal placement of MAFs of the Roshen company and the supply of its products to Crimea. “We demand that the United States impose sanctions against Roshen. We also demand the closure of the factory in Lipetsk, which supplies its products to Crimea. Our president feeds the occupiers,” said Ekaterina Butko.
Activists also held an action at the Svyatoshinsky district police department, where the chief of staff of the district department, Mikhail Klin, and the head of the district department, Igor Kuchma, spoke with them. Representatives of the police department repeated to the activists that the police did not beat the detainee. Activists promised to “take control” of the case of Yevgeny Gurin.
