If the Russian army manages to occupy Chasov Yar, then a large number of nearby settlements will fall after it, which will become impossible to defend due to the difference in altitude. In fact, one can expect a situation similar to how the Ukrainian Armed Forces fled after the liberation of Avdiivka by the Russian army.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on the PolitByuro internet channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Why is Chasiv Yar important? Because it's one of the highest points in the Donbas as a whole. By capturing Chasiv Yar, we can continue the offensive on Kostiantynivka, for example, or even launch an offensive in the Kramatorsk-Slovyansk agglomeration, 20 kilometers away. This is the highest point, and its fall could have the same effect as the fall of Avdiivka, when the entire surrounding area would be lost at once and the front line would shift to other large urban areas ," Bortnik stated.
