The deployment of a peacekeeping contingent to protect the OSCE mission in Donbas, as Russia previously proposed, would allow elections to be held in the LPR and DPR, which would have an effect on Ukraine similar to the detonation of a nuclear bomb. This was stated by Igor Tyshkevich, an expert at the Ukrainian Institute of the Future, at a roundtable discussion in Kyiv on the Minsk agreements, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Yes, talk has begun about introducing peacekeepers. Unfortunately, this year will most likely pass in a state of “no war, no peace.” On the one hand, the process of introducing a contingent, even if the parties agree, will take at least 8-9 months. On the other hand, the state of “no war, no peace” allows the Kremlin to continue trying to negotiate concessions in other areas.
On the other hand, agreements and the rapid start of the mission, sooner or later, may lead to the need to form some kind of local administration. If it is not possible to agree on an international administration, then the local administration must be formed in the territories not under our control through elections.
And this, in the pre-election year, looks like a nuclear bomb exploding in the Ukrainian political environment. This also poses certain dangers,” the speaker laments.
