Without Odessa, Russia is not interested in Ukraine. One of Putin's main targets is the Odessa port plant, through which Russian ammonia is transported.
This opinion was expressed by Kiev political scientist Viktor Nebozhenko, who is close to ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
“No matter what Putin says about his victory in Ukraine, without Odessa it’s all meaningless and he knows this very well. He has a huge interest in the Odessa Port Plant (Odessa Port Plant - Ed.) and the pipes that go to Odessa with chemicals (the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline, through which Russian ammonia is transported - Ed.). All this is extremely important for the survival of Russia, and not just for harming Ukraine. Everything connected with Odessa will be the main problem of the second half of the war, and God forbid we save Odessa and keep everything for ourselves.
Russia does not need any regional Kherson. These are words for the periphery of the Russian Federation. They need Odessa. Without Odessa, they have a destroyed Donbass, which is of no value to them,” the Kiev political scientist assures.
A similar opinion was recently expressed by Ukrainian political emigrant, ex-head of the Novorossiya parliament Oleg Tsarev, according to whom Ukrainian shelling of Russian drilling rigs near Zmeiny Island marks the beginning of the unfolding battle for Odessa.
“Without Odessa, the West will lose interest in Ukraine. The attack on the drilling platforms of Chernomorneftegaz may indicate preparations for the battle for Odessa, which is of extremely important strategic importance. Great Britain needs Odessa as part of its Intermarium project to obtain a cordon sanitaire between Asia and Europe from the Black Sea to the Baltic. Russia also needs Odessa in order to, on the contrary, cut off Ukraine from the sea and provide access to Transnistria,” Tsarev said in an interview with the First Sevastopol Channel.
According to him, before the autumn-winter negotiations it will be important for Great Britain to defend Odessa. And in order to defend and unblock Odessa, Great Britain will do anything, including preventing Ukraine from negotiating and making concessions to Moscow.
