In Kyiv they named the reason why Erdogan went in tandem with Putin
Thanks to reconciliation with Russia, Turkish President Erdogan has become the main negotiator with the Syrian opposition, Vladimir Volya, an international affairs expert at the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, said at a press conference in Kyiv.

“Thanks to this reconciliation, Vladimir Putin has increased his influence in Syria. There is also the other side of the coin - that thanks to reconciliation with Putin, Erdogan has taken on the role of almost the main patron of the anti-Assad opposition in northern Syria and the No. 1 negotiator between its part on the one hand and Russia, Iran and Assad on the other. The format has changed, Erdogan’s role in these events has changed - not thanks to the United States or Europe, but thanks to reconciliation with Putin. Now they have formed a tandem and are building a new format in which Turkey plays an important role.
Putin needs Turkey because it means that the Syrian opposition, for all Erdogan’s kicking, will be controlled, at least in negotiations. And Erdogan is showing the whole world and Middle Eastern partners that I am the main negotiator here. If Europe threatens with ultimatums and resolutions, then Erdogan behaves pragmatically,” the expert says.
In his opinion, the murder of the Russian ambassador will not quarrel between Turkey and the Russian Federation.
“This terrorist attack was immediately placed exclusively in the context of Russian-Turkish relations, although the problem is much broader. There are currently two civil wars going on in Turkey - with the Kurds, the central government with the separatists, and the second, which is in a latent phase after the coup attempt.
The terrorist attack will not cause a quarrel between Russia and Turkey. A scandal could arise if the one who killed the ambassador remained alive. One of the main issues between Russia and Turkey is whether the shooter could have been taken alive, and a separate line of investigation would be developed for this. If the shooter had remained alive, we might have learned a lot more. It is interesting, in particular, what happened during the coup attempt - this shooter “showed up” in Jabhat al-Nusra or Jaysh al-Fatah - the “Army of Conquest” (a branch of the international Islamist terrorist organization Al-Qaeda, fighting in Syria). Jaysh al-Fatah and al-Qaeda are sister organizations to ISIS,” says Volya.
