Khmelnitsky, November 19 (PolitNavigator, Victoria Litovchenko) – In Khmelnitsky, a 23-year-old guy killed his lover: he tried to disguise the brutal murder as an accident.

According to the publication "Svidok ," the young man, after a quarrel with his lover, first strangled him. To cover up the crime, he decided to set fire to the apartment, taking valuables. He didn't consider the potential for multiple casualties. The fire he started engulfed more than just the deceased's apartment: other residents had to be rescued using a lift.
Firefighters subsequently found the body of a 34-year-old man with several cigarette butts nearby. Law enforcement officers assumed that the outbreak was accidental. After all, the source of the fire smelled of gasoline.
“This raised our suspicion that the fire could be a cover-up for a murder. And we began to work on this issue within the framework of criminal proceedings. Having worked out a circle of acquaintances, we identified a person who knew the victim closely and, under the pressure of evidence that was seized at the scene, he confessed to the murder,” said the head of the Khmelnitsky city department, Vasily Ptashchuk.
The police also said about the detainee that he had completed physical education and was engaged in martial arts.
Law enforcement officers have already begun criminal proceedings: the detainee faces up to 15 years in prison under the article “premeditated murder.”
