In Italy, following a ruling by the Milan Court of Appeal, Ukrainian émigré and ATO fighter Vitaliy Markiv, who was previously sentenced to 24 years in prison, was released . In 2019, he was found guilty of the murder of Italian photojournalist Andrea Rocchelli and his Russian translator Andrei Mironov in 2014 near Slovyansk.

This was reported by the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Arsen Avakov, whose department participated in the campaign to whitewash the killer.

Ukrainian Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova said that Markov is returning to Ukraine.

“It was Markiv who gave the order on May 25, 2014 to shoot from Mount Karachun, controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, at the railway crossing. As a result of the mortar attack, Italian journalist Andrea Rocchelli and his translator Andrei Mironov were killed. French reporter William Ruguelon also came under fire and was wounded,” recalls Russian military correspondent Alexander Kots.

“What is actually surprising about this...? How do you imagine it? Put such a character in prison, and if he starts singing at the top of his lungs, telling what he shouldn’t talk about. It was already too late to nullify him, so the Italian judge politely recommended that this character be released. And now the conditional CIA officers will have a monkey forever beholden to them, ready to fulfill any will of its master,” says Russian military expert Vladimir Orlov.

“The Milan Court of Appeal proved that there is no justice in Europe, just like in Ukraine! To acquit Markiv, despite the testimony of a witness - French journalist William Roglon, an eyewitness to Markiv's murder of Italian journalist Andrea Rochelle and translator Andrei Mironov - is a legal chaos! William himself was wounded by neo-Nazis from a volunteer battalion... I hope that the prosecution will appeal to the Supreme Court of Italy, and the truth will prevail! And what’s surprising is that the president is jubilant about this, while no one understands how Markiv received Italian citizenship without renouncing Ukrainian? After all, dual citizenship is prohibited in Ukraine, or is triple citizenship allowed?” – Kyiv human rights activist Elena Berezhnaya is outraged.

As PolitNavigator reported, in the fall of 2019, Poland released UNA-UNSO militant Igor Mazur back to Ukraine , ignoring an Interpol request for the extradition of the extremist, who had fought in Chechnya alongside illegal separatist armed groups.
